It's all on a single page, in English, [http://www.stellarium.org stellarium.org].

===How to translate homepage===

Stellarium's homepage now uses gettext for translation and you can translate it via specialized applications like poedit or Rosetta web interface.

*Everything on the homepage needs to be translated, except the news section.
+
Translation process it very simple and you need run next 3 simple steps:
:(Coordinating a fully translated news section would be very difficult to do. On top of that it is often specific information aimed at lead users, so the benefits to most Stellarium users would be rather low.)

 +
* [https://translations.launchpad.net/stellarium-website Open Rosetta tool] for translation of Stellarium's homepage.
 +
* Choose your language and translate a text.

*The screenshots page doesn't need translation either, they are evocative enough for most users, and the current page design isn't very graceful anyway.

'''Note:''' If your language not in list of available languages then please contact to '''[https://launchpad.net/~alexwolf Alexander Wolf]''' and we add your language to list of available for translation languages.

*The homepage works with a few php includes. This means that php generates the page on request, which enables the simple inclusion of one file in all translated pages.  The list of languages at the bottom is an example of that.  Make sure you add or mention the name of the new language.

===How to apply translations to homepage===

Presumably homepage stored in bazaar's trunk and next 5 simple steps will apply translations from Rosetta to homepage:

*When a new version is released, the list in the left column might change to highlight new features. For instance, with version 0.8.1, "telescope control" was added. The feature list should be updated now and then in the different languages, to keep it relevant.

==A few tips==
+
===How to add new lines for translation===
Save the page to your computer.  You now have the starting document to do the translation, via a text editor or a WYSIWYG program.
+
Presumably homepage stored in bazaar's trunk and next 5 simple steps will apply translations from Rosetta to homepage:

If you want to test the page on your own server, you could change the stylesheet to [http://stellarium.org/css/stellarium-absolute.css this one with absolute links]. A few things probably won't work: all php generated content and all relative links. No need to change this.  The layout should be correct however - if not, maybe a markup tag was inadvertently deleted.
+
* Go to folder with trunk source code and update it from bazaar ('''bzr pull''')
 +
* Update source code in trunk folder
 +
* Generate a new ''stellarium-website.pot'' file via run script '''util/generatePot.sh'''
 +
* Commit changes to trunk ('''bzr commit -m "added new lines for translation"''')
 +
* Update trunk on launchpad.net ('''bzr push lp:stellarium-website''')

If you use <code>base</code> tag in <code>head</code> element and in front of <code>link</code> tags, then you can check easily images and relative links without changing to absolute link. Example:
+
==Any questions?==
<base href="<nowiki>http://www.stellarium.org/xx/</nowiki>" />
+
If you have any questions, such as the proper context or meaning of a string, feel free to ask it at the [https://sourceforge.net/projects/stellarium/forums/forum/565801 Translators forum] at Stellarium's project page at SourceForge. You can login to SourceForge with a number of identities, including Google, Yahoo, OpenID (Wordpress) and many others.
"xx" is two letter code(Ex. Japanese is "ja").
+

Finished? Mail the file to [mailto:jomejome@users.sourceforge.net jome].  If you're good with wiki's, edit the table below, and thanks a million!

[edit] Introduction

Most people browse the web in their own language. Think about pupils in elementary schools across the world who aren't studying English - yet. To make it possible for them to discover Stellarium, we'd be very grateful if you could provide a translation of the stellarium.org homepage. It's a small task, but extremely important.

  • Update trunk on launchpad.net (bzr push lp:stellarium-website)

[edit] Any questions?

If you have any questions, such as the proper context or meaning of a string, feel free to ask it at the Translators forum at Stellarium's project page at SourceForge. You can login to SourceForge with a number of identities, including Google, Yahoo, OpenID (Wordpress) and many others.
